Each BAE Systems shipyard has an established safety program, actively enforced
by a safety organization zealously committed to eliminating the
risk of personal injury and property damage in the workplace. Our
safety personnel perform both scheduled and unscheduled work site
inspections on each ship in the yard.
Our production coordinators and QA inspectors are on-site constantly
and are intimately familiar with all work in progress. Safety Committees
meet regularly to discuss accident prevention, enforcement of safety
requirements and new safety requirements. Continued emphasis on
safety training is an important factor in the ongoing efforts to
improve upon our safety records. Our subcontractors also receive
very specific safety guidelines. As a result of our stringent safety
policies, BAE Systems shipyards have reduced their workers’ compensation
cost rate to levels considerably below industry standards. Safe
Ship of the Week incentive programs greatly enhance the importance
of safety awareness among our work force. Recently, both our San
Diego and Norfolk shipyards joined with the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration worker safety program to demonstrate our
fervent commitment to the health and safety of our people.
